Martyn Lawrence Bullard, Million Dollar Decorator/furniture designer/Jaguar spokesman/Schumacher fabric designer/all around fun bon vivant, decorated Mr. Doheny's Bathroom, massage room and bedroom as a masculine lair. In the massage area, glimmering touches of brass, black detailing and chevron stripes keep things moody and luxe.
Bullard's new Schumacher fabrics are used throughout. A Brookstone massage table, covered in his oversized zig zag fabric is the focal point of the massage room. A folding screen of antiqued mirror makes the intimate space appear larger, a great device in small areas.
Touches of black and white are coordinated with modernist abstract paintings.
MLB's now signature black and white Tangiers Side Table sits in a corner.
In the bedroom, a canopy bed of his own design is draped in his Schumacher fabrics. Taupe along with touches of ebony and white are everywhere. The space gets a global injection, with Indian mirrors, inlaid accessories and low lighting from sconces and table lamps.
A small Indian mirror, Buddha and inlaid chest under the ebony nightstand evoke travels and far off escapes.
A cozy reading chair mixing pattern and solid in more (!) Schumacher.
Paisley upholstered wall panels surrounded by white millwork details add a relaxing den feeling to Mr. Doheny's bedroom. A gilded serpent mirror from Rose Tarlow Melrose House hangs above the beautifully proportioned marble mantel.
A major ebony inlaid chest on elaborate legs surrounded by a pair of tracery detailed chairs adds heft and interesting forms.
An ebony and ivory leg desk with an anglo Indian chair and brass camel add a bit of exotic flavor to the area where work gets done.
